Question Mambo?

Has anyone used Mambo?

I want to get back into my web design and don't have 400 bucks for Golive and my old version of dreamweaver isn't going to cut it any more.

Thanks in advance.

I use mambo for two of my site. Even though I can create my own CMS (content management system) but I really don't have the "time" coding from scratch. All I do is create my own graphic templates and embedded into mambo. BUT..you still need to learn some understanding in PHP coding.

Very useful software and I would highly recommend it. Lets do the mambo!

Mambo looks really good to me. Thanks for sharing the link. I'd imagine that what owen said is true. With any CMS I've worked with, you need to know at least a bit of the language it was programmed in to set it up.

What version of dreamweaver are you using?

The first mx. I have removed it because I cant get it to launch. I tried the new versions and cant get any macromedia app to launch. Very strange.

I use Mambo for one of my sites. I don't think that you need any real PHP experience to use it. All you have to do to install it is upload all of the folders correctly. Well, I got it to work without knowing any PHP, even though I'm trying to learn it now. I installed mambo before I started learning.

The first MX is good enough I think, but if it won't run, then I guess your S.O.L. The first MX does do XHTML compliant pages. I don't use dreamweaver on a regualr basis, but I know it quite well, and there is only one new feature past MX that I think is worthwhile, and thats the resample image button. I guess the server side scripting support is better in the new versions, but it's still nothing to write home about IMO.

eek: you make a good point, getting open source php stuff installed and working is a fun way to learn it.

I use Expression Engine for quite a few sites now. I have used almost everything down throught he years and this has to be the most customisable CMS I have ever used. New version will be released next week. They also have a gallery module and a new forum module. There is a licence fee but it has my seal of approval.

Check them out here at http://www.pmachine.com
