I have been told over and over to get a nikon. I guess at this point if I had to chose this second I would get the nikon. But, I keep looking at the kodak and fuji film cameras. I can say that the price is the biggy here. I can get the 5.0 mega pixel for the same price I can get a 3.0 mega pixel nikon. Just want to know if I would be making a huge mistake by getting one of the latter cameras.

I do plan to use this camera for print work and for personal use. I do know that for print work I will need at least a 3 mega pixel camera.

This is in the wrong forum...

Well it all depends on how much you want to spend pretty much.
If you want high quality images for print I would go for DSLR for sure.
Then again if you don't have $800+ to spend you'd have to go for a PnS camera.

IMO, the only cameras to look at are Canon, Nikon, Leica, and some high end Sony. the rest of the stuff on the market is of an inferior quality. goto http://www.dpreview.com

As far as Point and Shoot cameras go I would recommend CoolPix.
Although I've never used one I have seen some really good images that came out of it.
I believe that kriegs has one of the models, can't remember wich one.

That seems to be the best as far as quality - V - price.

Kriegs has the Nikon Coolpix 995 (iirc), same camera as me. This is a very nice camera, and has enough manual features to satisfy an amateur photographer. You can set it up in aperture or shutter priority, or full manual control.

It's downfall is it's resolution, obviously, but I can get full A4 size prints (9x11 for you US folk, I think) from it, as long as the photos are shot at ISO 100.

Any more questions, just leave them here, and be sure to check out dpreview, it is one of the best, if not the best, digital camera resources.

I went with the Nikon 4300. Its on its way to me now.

Seemed really mac friendly with the QT in the file formats. All I hear of this camera is good. I hope everything works out well with it.

Mmm, I don't share that opinion about the rest being of inferior quality. Olympus for example is very top of the line in the category of cameras with non removable lenses and they always get good reviews. No, I'm not a Olympus fan, I prefer Canon ;)
