Along the lines of my other thread ("500 Greatest Albums...") these are the "50 Greatest Artists...", according to Rolling Stone magazine: The List (http://www.rollingstone.com/features/coverstory/featuregen.asp?pid=2846)
(Number 1: The Beatles)

I don't know... I think there are some major gaps in there.
ACDC and Aerosmith off the top of my head are the greatest omissions.
Plus there is probably good case for putting Metallica on there.
I can't complain with most of the list though even though quite a bit of it I don't listen too.
Beatles #1 :grin2:

Agreed on both counts. I think maybe even Van Halen should be in there.
(I would also put Nirvana in the top 15, maybe the top 10. Also, if was doing a list and I were to put Madonna in it, I wouldn't put her in at #36... I'd put her in at #3600... maybe. )

Chuck Berry before Hendrix??!??!?! WTF!? That offends me, I'm going to go sit in the corner and cry. Further, Hendrix's article is written by John Mayer...sorry to his fans, but John Mayer simply pisses me off.
What about NIN, John Coltraine (spelling?), Billie Holiday, Led Zepplin (they've got the Doors and The Who on there), Radiohead, BIG and Tupac, etc.?
I hate these kind of lists, there is always a flaw. These lists should be made by musicians and include at least 200 artists, not thrown together by Rolling Stone magazine wanna-be-groupie-rock-star-twits.
...ahh yes, I totally agree w/ Metalica

I agree with you both on Metallica. They should definitely be in top 50. Solarian: Zeppelin is on the list, at # 14. Pretty good actually. The problem with these lists is that they leave out a lot of accomplished artists from the past 10 years or so ( Dave Matthews, Radiohead, Weezer, etc., etc.) I guess that has a lot to do with the average ages of the list creators.
