Well its been some time now but I have been looking for a digital camera (SLR). I know there are a few members that may have Digital cameras. If you would like to share your thoughts on what you have or what you would like.

Personally I am looking closely at the new Nikon D70 since the lens from my F80 will work on it...along with all the damn filters I have. ;)

Cheers.

lol

Well me and freakyclean have been looking for sometime now, and he has managed to change my mind against the New Sony Cybershot (not an SLR) and had me going on the Canon Rebel, then the Canon 10D, now its the new D70 from Nikon....

Andrew is a research machine, so I think the safest bet would be to get what every freaky gets. :)

I was stuck between Rebel and 10D but 10D won and now I'm happy :)

I really like the 10D, but it comes down to the fact that I currently own a NIkon F80 and all the goodies lens and filters I could use with the D70, with the exception of the battery pack of course.

Decisions, decisions. :)

Wait I am broke...there that was easy..no camera for now ;)

I would soooo love the Nikon D70. Hell, if I didn't have a girlfriend and a daughter, I'd put off food for a month to afford it.

When I was shopping for my current F80, I looked at Canon's cameras. Not that they're not great cameras, but Nikons layout of controls just feel better and more intuitive to me. I love my F80, but I hate not affording developing and getting a decent scanner. But bottomline, I think you just need to go to a store, and handle both cameras. After all, you want a camera you'll be most confortable working with.

For me, the D70 is the only option, and I'll probably end up getting one eventually, when I win the damn lottery :) Then again, I have 3 lenses, whereof one cost the same as the damn body, which is alot for the likes of me right now.
If I remember correctly, you use a Sigma 28-200mm? And from your post I gather than you only use this one lens? If so, then getting a new lens won't cost a huge fortune, but, if you keep your old body you'll have the option of choosing digital or film!

Seriously, I think the most important issue is how you like the controls. It's annoying to browse through menu after sub-menu after sub-menu just to switch to spotmetering.

If you get the Nikon, get me one too, please. And if you get the Canon, then send me your old lens and filters. Thanks :D

I think the beauty of the D70 for me is the familiarity with the controls and features due to my owning a F80.

Yeah the only lens I currently have for my F80 is the sigma, and I hear the lens that comes with the D70 is pretty good, and would cover my wide angle requirement.

I wasnt impressed with the Digital Rebels feel when i handled it, it seemed rather like a toy, but the 10D had a solid feel. I am hopoing with the lens and stuff on the D70 it will feel somewhat better.

Hi All

Good to be back.

As a former Nikon owner, and for those who know me, you would expect a long winded pro-Nikon rant. Not the case any longer. However, as you don't have a heavy investment in Nikkor lenses Chris and if you're looking to move to a new platform, now is the time to do it. Nikon builds fantastic cameras, but don't tie yourself to a brand for conveinience sake.

Just for reference on quality, I saw an image taken with a D1X at the world track and field event held here in Edmonton year before last. It was a shot taken of a high jumper;with a 400mm f2.8 on a D1X. The print I saw was 20X30 inches and absolutely flawless, no way could a 35mm film produce an image that good. From my understanding alot of the same imaging technology resides in the D70.

Sorry I couldn't make it easier for you.

Later.

the canon digital rebel aka digital kiss wins over the 10D because of the difference in cost, because feature-wise the 10D beats it if i recall.

still, i have a canon rebel and i love it :)

i bought it aiming at a camera that i could rely on for more than just a few years and imo i got just that. But if I had the cashflow, sure, i'd go with the 10D since the rebel is a stripped down version of it.
