I have never used Corel Draw or macromedia Freehand...so I have to say Adobe Illustrator............Plus I am more of a Photoshop guy...

illustrator because it is the industry standard, with Freehand being a somewhat distant second. It depends on what you do, i do know some illustrators who prefer Freehand, but Illustrator fits into the Adobe workflow and Freehand does not, and its also the standard.

I agree with shecky, Illustrator is the one you should learn as its the industry standard, plus the workflow thing.
CorelDraw may be more intuitive for beginners (at least I thought it was), but it can become more difficult later in life when you have to fight with pre-press technicians who are complaining about recieving .CDR files. The export functions and saving as different file type functions in Corel where twitchy at best with the versions I used.

well i use corel for vectors and i've seen illustrator. i choose corel but i agree that illustrator is best.
the only reason why i use corel, is because upon install illustrator messed up my (slow) system, real bad. (the problem is hardware related, so relax)

Illustrator is very memory consuming

Corel has certain inherent problems with it that can cause problems in the printing process for certain files.
Illustrator is happy, happy, joy, joy!
Use an old version like 8 and it will run faster.
