Can you give us examples what type of finished work you are looking to achieve? There are numerous end results you could go for with scnanned pencils.

Vengeance,
What I've done is far from 'works of art' but I think I know where you are going. The process I've been using is to hand draw what I'd like, then scan. Following that I've been using Adobe Illustrator to ink the drawing turning the scanned photo into usable line art. Following that, it's time for Photoshop coloring which I do in two steps..flattening which is simply filling in the base colors, then rendering which involves adding skin tone, shadows, depth, etc.
I learned this process from the great tutorials here as well as elsewhere on the web. I've only been at this for about a month, and I will say the right tools and training can help a mediocre scan turn into something much more impressive.
