The wife and a number of family members got together and got me the Tokina 12-24mm F/4 that I really wanted for my birthday. Yipeee.
A review based on the three hours I have had it so far:
Amazing. Good corner to corner sharpness. No vignetting worth complaining about. Really sharp, even at 12mm f4 it's useable. Wide as hell. Lovely.

I have to get a filter for it and the HOYA M77 Skylight 1B filter HMC seems like a reasonable option, but what is the difference between that and the HOYA M77 UV filter?

I sort of want a polarizer as well, but really can't afford it right now. 77mm filters are just way too expensive. :(

Also getting a diffuser for my flash.
I considered a batterygrip, but I have decided I can do fine without it.

Wow, great family... Where did you find them? :-P

The lens sounds sweet, congratulation with your new toy!

A little late but Congrats!

Was the lens designed for reduced frame cameras? If not then you should be able to get away with a regular filter, not the ultra thin ones they have for wide angle.

Thanks. No, it's an APC-S so specifically for reduced, but a single regular filter is fine without getting any vignetting. A uv and the polarizer gives some vignetting at 12-14mm but it's fine in the rest of the range. :)
