Member Clean-up -
Okay, one suggestion to SDC. There are a lot of members on the forums now. LOTS! In the thousands. While that may make the forum look great and popular, I think it might be wasting some space and is showing b-days for people who are inactive.
The point I'm trying to make, is that there are a lot of inactive members on the forums. Maybe there should be a clean-up where those who are inactive in the past year or two are weeded out.
Perhaps with the saved space we can have larger file sized avatars and member photos (better quality)?
Just a thought!

1024x768?
;)
Yeah, pruning the forum in that respect would take time and give little or no benefit.

Well at least a couple of MB please, if you wouldn't mind. I tried a lot of different images and downgrading them to creat my personal photo and my avatar. It's more or less a file size issue.

OMFG
If we were allowed bigger avatars I could get robin and batman in the same avatar! :afro:
I would be the daddy cool then....MARK MY WORDS!

i agree with zyner. you could make the size for the attached files larger (maybe 250kb). i think the avatars are big enough. i wont see robin.

okay i made some changes, doubled the attachment size limit for most file types.
If you cant, however seem to get your images to fit in the constraints of the new file sizes you need to learn2optimize ;)

18K should be huge for Avatar sized pics. 4K is about average
D-Zyner

yeah, but when you have your image in mind and you optimize it to the lowest setting in photoshop as a jpg as small as my current avatar and it is still around 24-28kb, it's a bit of a problem.

.... hmmm are you using a high resolution? There really is no reason for a avatar to have that large of file size if it's only 72dpi.
D-Zyner

yeah, my images are always 72 dpi.

My 400x600 pixel photos I post are only 26K on average and my 100x150 pixel photo thumbnails are 3.5-4K. They are saved medium to high quality jpeg

I really don't think there is any need to increase the avatar file size limit. I know, I'm a file size nazi, but seriously, I can create an entire web page and have it look good at under 40KB. There really is no need for avatars to be any bigger than half of that.

Then I just must really suck at optimization. :chris:

What do you use to optimize?
If your in Photoshop, use the save for web feature. It optimizes much better than saving a copy as a JPG or exprting to a GIF, even though the file formats are the same.

A irc channel for sdc members only would be nice. i think that brings the members together.

:) Thank god you guys didn't do this.. Otherwise I'd have to come up with a new nickname every year. I try to be as active as I can- I just don't always have time and sometimes depending on where I am I need to disappear for some time- It'd be nice if the members who haven't been here for a while would come back to post and update everybody on what they're doing right now
