Hey fellas,

I'm most likely gonna get this camera, like i'm pretty set on this one. But I wanted to know what you all thought of the camera and if any of you had experience or own the camera? Is there any other camera you would all recommend for this price? ($399)

Canon is a good brand name, but I am not too familiar with this model. I guess it all depends on what you have in mind for your end product...is it for fun or work? Are you looking to do serious art prints from it or just snap shots?

I do alot of serious work with my SLR. But I also want to have a quality digital camera, where I can take some serious prints when I need to, but also can have it so I can have some snap shots. I had a Canon Powershot A60 (2.0 Megapixels) but that proved not to be enough megapixels to please me, I was just stupid when I bought the camera. Wasn't thinkin too much about it, just wanted it. I'm an idiot :(

S50 - 5.0 Megapixels. Ya it's got some of the creative controls, like you said white balance, etc.

*that's a link to a review on dpreview.com of the S50. Good site for user opinions and reviews.

Y ou should be able to get some good prints from that then. I know freaky was able to enlarge a 3.1 megapixel image toposter size and it was better in the end than that of a 35mm slide.

wow.

I got a question. What's the deal with theses like Slide scanners
http://www.nikonusa.com/template.php?cat=1&grp=98&productNr=9237

You scan your negatives etc, I had honestly never heard of anything like theses. If I was planning on scanning my darkroom prints, would it be better to print them and then scan them with like a nice scanner. Or use on of theses like negative/slide scanners?

Slide scanners are nice, especially the Nikon ones. :) Dedicated slide scanners are also far better than flatbed scanners with 'slide scannning' attachments.

I think you would be better off scanning your darkroom prints, especially if you are happy with the result, but you could just as easily scan the negs with a film scanner, but if you have access to a darkroom I say take advantage of it...there is still the magic of that process.

ya I was lookin at the Nikon and Canon scanners. I see you can scan your film and slides with their attachments. Plus your right, since i have access to a darkroom, I can just get a pretty nice scanner for those. Thanks SD.

If you can afford it pick up a transparency scanner that does medium format as well. If you plan on sticking with film photography, medium format is where it’s at.

The Nikon ICE technology is super-cool. It actually removes imperfections as it scans (ie: fingerprints, small scratches)
