all the posters are great. Except i don't think the 2nd place had too much creative input. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y34/saqe/140316.gif

I doubt very much that Joel did that on purpose, i have known him along time and its not his thing to do, its more likely a coincidence. I even have the same stock photo he used, its a freebie from stockbyte...anyways I will have a talk with him and get his thoughts. I think however the decision will have to rest in the judges hands on this one.
Judges if you want to PM me with your thoughts that would be greatly appreciated.

Whoa, that is similar. Thanks for pointing that out Sage. The world would be full of rippers and copy cats if it wasn't for people with keen eyes like you. I have never seen that poster, or heard of the movie before today though.
Here is my creative process to say that there was some creative input into this poster.
1. I thought it would be fun to enter the contest, so I searched my hard drive for some photo's to use.
2. I came accross this photo and thought it would make a great sci-fi poster image (it reminded me of the blob (http://imdb.com/title/tt0094761/) although I've only ever seen the 1958 production) http://www.stockbyte.com/single_image.php?img_sku=23833NDS
3. I made it red, because red is scary.
4. I don't think aliens have big boobs, so I shrunk them a bit (sorry SD :) )
5. The picture wasn't quite what I wanted yet so I stretched it, to give it the creepy alien look. The fingers weren't long enough so I stretched them even more.
7. I want it really creepy, but everything I did beyond that point looked dumb.
8. I examine movie posters to come up with the layout. I like the way the "the" is in "The Thing" logo, so I kinda copy that, not really. http://www.impawards.com/1982/thing.html
9. I liked the way the headliner stars were featured in this poster: http://onesheetdesign.com/palmetto.html
That is also similar to "The Matrix" poster.
10. I came up with 10 different taglines for the movie before settling on the one used on the poster.
11. I used the advice found here: http://onesheetdesign.com/contact.html for doing the credit block, which consits of some fictional names, my name, and the names of some of my friends and inspirations (and the two stars of course).
I did copy a few things from other movie posters, but only to try and make the poster look authentic. I personally don't think that my poster is good enough to ever be used on a real movie, but am very happy that it came in second. I honestly didn't enter the contest to win, but more for the fun of it. Once I had entered I was anxious to get the resluts, not so much to see if I won, but how other people viewed my work in relation to the other entries.
I hope you can see that this is a coincidence, and not copy.
