Hey guys, it has been a long time since i've posted, but i still troll here alot.

Anyway, I need to create a brochure, however I have never done it before.
Here are a few questions I have.

What programs are generally used? (Photoshop?, Illustrator?..etc)
What type of color do you use? (CYMK?)
How do you make sure the color you want is the color you get? (I know my monitor isn't correct)
Where do you get it printed? (Kinkos?)
What file type do they generally take? (bmp? :cheeky: jk)
What size do you make it? Does the print shop scale it or does it have to be the intended size?
I'm doing a tri-fold design, what type of margins do you use?

Lastly, so that I don't have to bug you guys with every little question...
What are some good resources that I can read for more information?

Create the graphical elements in the program of your choice, save them as EPS.

1- quark or indesign

2- cmyk, spot if the client has specific requirements

3- Good printers

4- no, unless a cheapo job

5- EPS, tiff

6- No scalling. Design at final size.

7- 1/8 of an inch.

Ressources? I'll have to get back to you on that one. Start with google... :D

What Mojo said but....I actually have used used illustrator and ps for brochures...quark would be much better in a lot of ways but since I don't use it very often it ends up taking me twice as long to do things...oh and don't forget about the bleed. Most printers have templates available as well.

No nothing much to add.

If you check the Adobe Studio (free registration) @ www.adobe.com you can downlaod free templates for 3 panel, 2 fold brochures that actually have the folding right. The front panel needs to be very slightly larger the the back/middle panel and the one that folds inside has to be slightly smaller the the back/middle panel.

If you use Illustrator or PS then you are more than likely to screw something up. Indesign (& Quark I gues) is better.

PDF can be a good file fimat too if you know what your doing and get he files right the first time.
