Welcome aboard! Well the site layout looks good so far, its got a that grunge - trend - feel. My concern is how big it is. I am running 1600x1200 and it takes up most of the screen. So unless you have liquid tables or scalable site in mind, most folks are not going to see your content with having to scroll left to right.
yes i am in 1152 by 864 and i see about two thirds of it
i like the mix between those flowers and the scratches...

Don't look at it for 6 months. Then you will either think it's cool or crap.

I get a 404 on this one again.
For advice on getting out of your own style comfort zone, find a website that you like that does not match your style, then rip it. This will give you an idea of the though process used into making the design and should start to get you comfortable thinking like that - since it will take you some time to copy the look.
When you are done, start concepts for your site's design using the principles you 'learned' from copying the other site.

Once we start getting enouhg regular posts in here, these old posts from 2002 will stop creeping up. I iam tempted to prune them all out, but I want the SE benefits of them.
For the next little while its problably a good idea to chcek the post date of the initial post to see that the thread isnt from 2002. They shouldnt normaly show up in the forum view unless you go them from the forum home page....
Alot of thsoe old posts wilhave links that go to 404
Sorry about that.
