i think this might be one for steeldolphin, or just any one who can help. i am having problems Blending colours.
to be more precise, the base of a mountain, i try to blend it into the back ground to give the illusion of mist at the base and all i get is a blurred appearance. or to blend clouds highlights/shadows ( as in a sample in " work in progress" ) again instead of blending it blurs.
i really need to get this to work because it has hindered me from progressing in any further work.
if visual examples are needed i can provide them!
ta in advance.

Well I certainly am no expert, but in photoshop here is what I do when I want to blend colours. I take any brush, set opacity under 10.. (like 5 or so) and I simply pick one of the colours that has to be blended and start painting over the border until satisfactory (Best is to press and hold your alt key, this should give you the color picker tool).
This also works great when smoothing out rough strokes.
If this was not helpful you might want to post visuals so I can see what it is that needs to be done or you can wait for Chriss :)

I am really flattered you guys seem to think I know what I am talking about but I really dont....
anyways I will give it a shot.
there are many different types of mountains and mountain scenes. Something I have observed though about high jagged mountains (generally the younger ones) is that they have three basic zones:
Top wich is very rocky and covered with snow, then midway its just rocky then there is a treeline that trees will grow too...and no higher. It all depends on how high your moutains are too - where these zones will begin and end and how much of the base you will actually see in the scene...distance fromt he mountian is also a factor, for atmospheric perspective.
Atmospheric perspective will generally cause the base of these mountains to be blueish and thus is why I use a blue similar to the sky color to fade into, and keeping some shadows and highlights to break it up a bit. I have included a VERY quick sample (5 min speedy) to illustrate, though I am not sure it does...I would also add other colors into this mix other than blue like yellows and some siennas or violets but I didnt in this case.
Mountains are by no means a strong point for me so hopefully this helps you in some way.
To blend sample colors from surrounding areas and use opacity set to low or use the stylus pen pressure and opacity settings

maybe some of the real experts like Monk and a few others could add to this. :)

This is why this forum is called Steel Dolphin Creative. The guy "whips" this up in 5 minutes, and I would almost hang it on my wall. Nice post Steel, I actually learned a lot from it myself. :)
