i need to design a layout for a racing team and this as proven to be a challenge. i'm not into cars, but i have to match their taste in graphics. so i was wondering if anyone had links of sites with good layouts. i'm not looking into ripping anyone of course. i just want some examples on do's and don'ts with this kind of design.

also, i need to integrate the whole site with phpBB so i cant go too wild on the content i guess

I'd say start with the big ones, like Nascar.com

From what I've seen, this is an industry with a lot of sites that suck.

On the upside, this is primarily an entertainment industry, which means you could have a lot of fun with it.

i've been going through google's page results for tuning, and so far you're right.

the trend seems to be dark grey and bright colors but i was planning to use some clear metals and content boxes. I need a way to integrate the content boxes with everything else though.

Well if you're searching for something like racing and the entertainment industry, you will probably find a clustering engine like Clusty (http://www.clusty.com/) very useful :)

they seem to have the best layouts on the subject. but it's to call this research over
