You gotta know it's a big problem when the mods posting it! :)

I have 3 - 2sided 8.5 by 12 brochures done in Photoshop. The client had a designer do them who is no longer in the picture. I need to reduce the font size from 15 point to 12 or smaller otherwise they'll have to file these in the large print section.

My problem is that each paragraph of text is on it's own layer. Also the text is left aligned with a hard return at the end of each line to make it look like it's justified.

If I change the font size to 12 point then it's 2/3 smaller both horizontally and vertically.

I need a way to reduce the font size without spending hours removing line breaks and selecting multiple paragraphs (or causing bodily injury to unnamed persons).

Thanks for any help

(I don't know if the attachment will work from the Mac) --- no it didn't I'll have to upload it later from home

I'm not sure there is a quick way to go about it. I do know you don't have to select the text to modify it. All you have to do is select it's layer, choose the Text Tool and change the font size, color, alias, etc.

How many text layers are there?

It sucks having to fix someone else's crappy job. Sounds like it should have been put together in a page layout program like Quark or Pagemaker.

Hmmmm....you might be stuck with the long method. Modifying and laying out blocks of text in PS is a pain in the ass even with the newer versions.

This problably wont work but you may be able to adjust the leading and kerning somewhat to adjust for the spacial loss, but the difference required might be too much space between chars and lines and too noticable.

I am stumped.

Each Photoshop file has about 60 layer with about 40 of those being text. There are three files in total, each one with a front and back of a brochure set up "work and turn" (- see glossary) so half of it is upsidedown - oh joy

I didn't know you could just click on the layer.

If done in Quark or Indesign with style sheets the whole thing would have taken at most 5 minutes to fix. Now I would say at least 5 hours work as once the paragraphs are fixed they have to be repositioned to space them out.

yep that sucks. hopefully you can in a nice way suggest to the client that he/she use a different designer or have the designer do it up in a page layout program for future jobs.

But anyway, it keeps you in work, right?

Could it be faster to recreate it as it should have been?

I think Photoshop should allow you to shift- and ctrl-click layers. They might have in v7, but I don't have it. :)
