How come you can't snap things to guides in Illustrator? Or at least I havent yet figured it out. Smart Guides are just plain annoying. Corel has illustrator beat hands down in this regard. I find it very frustrating allgning things like tables or objects, etc. It was the post by freakyclean on 'divide and conquor' that made me think to ask this question. I can see the benefits of the blend tool but there has to be an easier way.

Thanks.

You can set the smart guides to just 90 degree angles in the preferences. This will prevent most of the annoyance I think.

The point of the blend thing is to make things easier. If you have to divide 11 inches into 3 it will take you a couple of minutes and a calculator and you still won't get the guides in exactly the right place because Illustrator will round your decimals. With the blend option you will get the lines in exactly the right place and you can make guides (under view-guides) with them and there you go. You would still be figuring out that you need to set the guides to 3.6667 inches.

If you are having problems aligning try using the align pallet and the hidden distribute objects.

You must remember also that Illustrator is just what the name implies an illustration "tool" if you want page layout try InDesign it automatically figures out columns and you can set page margins and such. I use Illustrator mostly for small quick designs with minimum text like ads and business cards.

:)

(geez I didn't make any comment about Corel Draw I must be tired)

oh thanks. :) I had read your answer awhile back and thought that I had thanked you already. Sorry about the long delay, I haven't been around these parts in awhile.

Actually I was just reading about a plugin called Sapphire Pack 4 that has a column & row feature you may want to check it out.
The website should be: www.sapphire-innovations.com

I haven't checked it out myself so I can't tell you more
