Well, basically the entire top half of the site is just way too big. :furious3:

First you've got an unesscesarily large top header...

then the forum information bar

THEN the advertisment banner...

just makes it a pain to view the forum and posts IMO.

Couldnt the header be slimmed down a bit and the ad moved to the BOTTOM of the forum?

Well Joe.....from the beginning every thing was the same size- then SD started doing some experiments....I kinda liked it the older way and I know what you are talking about.....I am looking at it at 800x600- so it's not that bad..

I know the masthead is a bit large at the moment, and beleive me when i say you are preaching to the choir when it comes to oversized mastheads...but this design came out of necessity originally, I wanted the google ads in the top part where the merchandise links are etc, but I just didnt like it so its been a patch work since then.
One of the many things I have planned for the future when I redesign my own site is to redo the forum skin as well adn try to integrate all the features I want better - now that I know what those features are...This will problably mean dropping this skin and the basic as well when that time comes.

Unfortunately until I get the time to work on it its going to have to remain as is.

while they do not generate a ton of revenue for the site, every little bit helps. since money does not grow on trees for me either, i am unable to lend financial support to the forum itself. so i make it a point to click on those ads everyday in a small effort to help.

if you want a slim heading area, you can always open your user control panel and change the forum skin to "steel dolphin basic" which is a little more streamlined than the default skin that you see when you sign up. the basic skin is the one that i use and do not find it intrusive.

Yeah I think the google ads are a small price to pay to have the forum here.

Anyhow I think Steeldolphin has given his reply and we should consider this matter closed.

The header will be improved when a new skin is made.

HELL, I am running at 1920x1440 on a 23inch monitor. Nothing bother me..eh. I do agree the header is a bit large.
