I was wondering if you could give me a few hints or maybe links to some tuts that would help me understand some of the techniques you used on the girl in the splash?

No problem. I dont know of any tuts out there (maybe I should make one) but the process is fairly simple. I will do my best to outline it below.

I took a stock image and converted it to BW, then adjusted it via the levels palette to a 'high key' image (lots of white and dark blacks - high contrast). I then applied various levels of 'median' filters and fades to achieve the final look. The Images was then hue adjusted - colorize...a layer mask here and there and a ferverent prayer and voila!

Well there you have it...the very basics.
