Hi all, I know I haven't posted in quite some time, but thankfully it's because I've been really busy! :P
My friend recently started a new venture as a partner in The Copy Shop (i.e they make photocopies, print t-shirts, business cards, etc.). One of the services that The Copy Shop offers is web design, and that's where I come in. :D I'm not an official employee, but The Copy Shop does all my advertising and submits their web site requests to me. I'm also developing their web site, which you can check the progress of here: http://www.potsdamcopyshop.com
Anyway, my first project with this new venue is to develop a web site for the local Democratic Committee. It's just in the graphic mockup stage at the moment and I would like opinions and constructive criticism. Thanks all!

Very professional looking. I would get rid of the "welcome to our website." It's superflous and takes up valuable screen space that could be used by content. I like the donkey, but it pushes the navigation a bit too far down the page I think.

I agree that the Welcome area takes up valuable space, but the Client specified that they wanted a place for a personal welcome message. I'm going to try talking them into including a little more substance to that paragraph though.
Also, it would be better for the navigation to be up higher. But I tried positioning the donkey in lots of places, and I concluded that right under "democratic" is the best place. At least in the lower resolution you can see all of the committee links as well as the "Get Involved" heading...so people should know enough to scroll down! :)
Thanks for the comments!

Slick and pro looking. Nice use of the appropriate colors (red, white, and blue are pretty much the only colors you can use on a site like this, I know). It definitely has that political Website look and feel. My only crit would be that I would like to see the background blue carried all the way over horizontally. I'm viewing it at 1152 x 864. Good job. :)

Thank you for the comments...the blue background doesn't fill the screen at that resolution because the graphic mockup is too narrow. When the web site is actually coded the background will extend to fill the browser, irregardless of the resolution.
I spoke with the client and it appears she wants to head in a more "patriotic" direction by darkening the blues and making the flag more pronounced. Exactly what I wanted to stay away from...but the customer is always right! And I'm not sure if the donkey photo will stay either. It might get replaced with a donkey symbol or a donkey cartoon!

Oh yeah. I kind of forgot that I was looking at a graphic and not a Web page when I made that last crit. Sorry. As far as the donkey, I think a sort of non-descript, illustrative drawing of a donkey might look cool. Maybe design one yourself and trademark it. Looking forward to seeing the site develop. Please post follow ups so we can check it out. :)
