Other uses of the blend tool
Shapes tweens as they are called in flash can be done in Illustrator by drawing the two end objects then using the blend tool to blend between them. There are several blend options that can be accessed by double clicking on the tool. You can also get different effects by selecting different anchor points to blend from.
You can also use the blend tools to create colour "pallets" for you. Just select two colours then specify the number of steps in the blend options and you can get x number of swatches. When you want to work with a limited pallet this is very useful.
You can create bevel edges with the blend tool as well. You can take two circles one larger than the other (big one in back) and blend them together to create bevel similar to the inner bevel that Photoshop has. Why would you want to do this? If you are creating a logo then you can scale a vector bevel easily, and the file size is kept small.
