i am trying to figure out which lcd to get, it will be my first and i know little to nothing about them. my radius 21" crt just bit the dust, 8 years of service!

my work is primarily for print, and accurate color is obviously important. i am running osx on a 800mhz g4 tower and will probably upgrade in the next year or so. i do not have an additional graphics card. will i need one for a 23" monitor running millions of colors?

i have read the bad experiences people have posted about the new apple 23" display (the silver one), and have crossed it off my list. on top of that i have had some bad experiences with apple support regarding an imac that was upgraded to osx and it fried the logic board.... but that's another story.

i am debating between the apple 23" cinema display (the clear one, which is still available from some online retailers) and the Sony PremierPro SDM-P232W/B 23". the prices are pretty close. apple offers a 1 year warranty while sony offers 3 years.

regarding the sony, do i need an adapter?

Any and all advice as well as other monitor suggestions appreciated

I work in Pre-Press and print and use a LaCie Electron Blue III monitor. I know they also have LCDs so you could try them. Personally I am waiting another couple of years before I go LCD. My other (good) monitors are a Mitsubishi Diamond Pro and a Samsung 900NF.

I loved my Samsung before it blew up on me a month out of warranty. Smoke was coming out the top and the plastic was melted. I took it apart to to see what was wrong and a small, easily replaceable board was fried, so I called up the Samsung parts dealer, and he said Samsung doesn't do parts, so if one thing goes, the whole monitor is toast. So I guess what I'm saying is: don't buy a Samsung.

I think your best bet for product reviews would be toms hardware. They do all kinds of nerdy tests to push the limits of the hardware they test. I'm sure you could find some good advice there. http://graphics.tomshardware.com/display/index.html

If you can afford a LaCie, you won't be dissapointed.

As for any Samsung products (monitor, tv, phone, etc...), my wife and I refer to them as Samshit...
