Movie Poster Design Contest
Deadline: April 30th, 2005

You have been hired to design a standard movie poster for a new movie produced by Damselfly Pictures.

Creative Brief:

The client Damselfly Pictures has requested that a full color movie poster be created for their latest movie title: THE HEART. This major motion picture will have two big name stars (feel free to just make them up). Their names should appear before and larger than any other actor names you choose to add.
The 'Damselfy Pictures' logo is attached as a zip with .eps format logo.

The theme of this movie is open to your own interpretation. Anything goes (ie: horror, romantic, comedy, adventrure, sci fi, etc), the goal is to convey an idea of what the movie is about and to invoke interest in the viewer. You may use whatever style as well, painting, illustration, photography, photomanipulation, etc, or combinations of all.

Specifics and Rules:

1. Final Image Size: 500x800px as a jpeg (this is a must, anything else will NOT be considered). This is just the final image size for web purposes, you may create the poster in whatever format or resolution you desire, but the final submitted image must be a jpeg @ 500x800px. Post or attach final entries in this thread.

2. No pornographic, or inappropiate content.

3. Try to be as authentic in the design of the poster as possible, check out these resources for ideas: http://www.allposters.com/, http://www.movieposters.com

4. The following things MUST appear on the poster: Title (The Heart), 2 of the major actors names, the Damselfy Logo.

5. Deadline: April 30th, 2005.

6. No use of copyrighted materials, or use of material without the owners express written consent. If you are going to use photos of people it may be best to stage them with friends rather than using real actors photographs as we could get in trouble with that.

7. Entries will be judged on Creativity, composition, typography, authenticity (does it look like a real movie poster?) and other technical considerations. The entries will be judged by a panel of 5 judges and winners will be announced on or before May 15th, 2005.

Prizes:
I realize the prizes aren't much but over the past while I have been able to put a few coins away every month from advertising revenue to supply the first place prize.

1st Place: $30.00 Gift Certificate at Amazon.ca, SDC Design Award Button, and featured on Both SDC and the forums.
2nd Place: SDC Design 2nd place Award Button
3rd Place: SDC Design 3rd place Award Button

The entrants and winners will be dsiplayed in gallery format on its own site...to be announced later.

I like the idea of poster art, always wanted to do something but wasnnt encoureg to do empty stuff, this way u have managed Steel D. is nice and thx for putting this thread up.
Just saw this thread today and couldnt resist in making something to contribute to this nice thread so Ive put all my efforts in making such art.
The Heart as a subject is a nice one and can be interpreted in many ways so what Ive done tonight is my seeing of this lets say "such a motive" piece.
The Heart sometimes makes it imposible to judge from the mind as itself, sometimes it is demolished by an unturned love and it can, well not allways go distorted in the pieces untill its made again from some unkown reasons, maybe a love in the first sight, maybe a love to ur parents or kids, or just love in the name of god, so much interpretation i have tried to put in this piece. The typo I might be wrong as it is to me still new way of seeing and doing graphics and all i was doin before was using vector progs for such accasion like postcards and such. So without my further delay here is my new piece om the subject: " The Heart".

We decided to leave that up to the artist to choose the mood. To allow more freedom with the design. Later competitions will have more strict guidelines. So have fun with this you can make it a comedy or a horror.. or both it's up to you.

I like to keep mine simple and catchy. The red shape represents the bottom of the heart. The black part looks like a dress. At the same time, behind the that lovley um..um..(you know)…there’s a heart.

I am quite happy with the layout.

The thing is that I imidedatly saw (the top of) the heart in the shadowed shape of her breasts... (upside down)!

Please note that a "trademark" is different than a "copyright". Trademarks are brand names and/or designs which are applied to products or used in connection with services. and copyrights cover literary, artistic, and musical works. The former can be used by people without having to gain permission as long as it is used in connection with the services the trademark makes copyrights have to have permission before use.

So to state plainly if you're product is connected or uses Dolby Digital technology than you can use that logo without talking to the Dolby company. If you are say using the term Dolby Digital as your company then you run into legal troubles.

So it is alright to use the Dolby Digital logo for this project.

1 entry per person Scotty. You can edit or change your entry up to the deadline but you must make a post saying that you changed it so that the judges can download the new version (if they have already downloaded the previous).
