These are from my last foray out with the camera. freakyclean and I went and spent an hour or two along some of the beach front here in Kelowna. I returned to the spot where I took the this (http://www.steeldolphin.com/forum/waterblur_web.jpg) tree in the water pic (blurry water...interesting effect...poor cropping) and tied it again at a different time/angle/exposure.

Thanks to freaky for the great scans :)

These images will undergo some minor levels/sharpening etc, but that will come later...these pics are direct from the scan and have only been resized to fit your computer. ;)

Technical Data:
Nikon F80 w/Sigma AF D type 28-200mm lens.
Film: Fuji Provia Professional 100

1. The tree (http://www.steeldolphin.com/forum/waterblur2.jpg)
This was shot when there was no light available (couldn't even tell if the subject was focused) and the exposure was set for 30 sec @ f8 I believe. I am quite happy with the color this time.
Filter: None

2. Rocks in the water1. (http://www.steeldolphin.com/forum/rockswater.jpg) Rocks in the water2. (http://www.steeldolphin.com/forum/rockswater2.jpg)
These were longer exposures as well. 10-15 sec. The first one had an off camera flash during the exposure.
Filter:Cokin Polarizer

3. The Camera (http://www.steeldolphin.com/forum/camera.jpg)
This is a pic of freaky's camera with a cokin system filter on it.

I hope you enjoy. :)

Comments welcome.

That first pic is quite nice, doesnt look like f8 though, looks more like f4 or so. However on a second look Im fairly sure thats a reflection off the water. As usual i LOVE the color saturation.

The second pic is quite nice, color saturation again. The flash almost makes it look asif its foggy.

The cokin system rocks eh, i really have to get a new one after my last clip broke.

I love the sunsets over there. Ohwell time for me to get photographing again.

you might be right about the apeture, I cant really remember, the depth of field does look shallow. Some of that may be the fact that Icouldnt really focus under the lighting conditions (must remember to bring flood lamps). :)

I think in the first one, the focus or rather lack of sharpness adds a sorta otherworldliness to it. I quite like it.

I think the wind was moving the smaller branches in the back on the first one.

I have always liked the idea of the Cokin system but the fact I got a polarizer, blue, red, orange, 81b, diffuser, star 8, neutral density 4 filters plus 1 holder, 2 caps, and 2 adapter rings for around $100 bucks used (no scratches or marks) makes me pretty happy (Satisfies the Scottish half of my brain too). I know I could have probably gotten it cheaper on e-bay or something but I got it locally and was able to test them on the camera before buying.

Wow nice camera picture :)

I agree about the depht of field Chris. I also agree about the saturation, great shot! The second shot is cool, but it would be even cooler if the foreground was even sharper. That would create wonderfull contrast between the water and rocks :)

i know nothing about camera's but those pics are sweet dood, the first one is awesome, the colors on the water are beautiful and the blurriness is cool. The silohuette(sp?) is cool on the 2nd one. and the rock ones are pretty cool how you got close to capture texture and stuff. The sharpness on the camera is also pretty sweet.

Dan: Thanks. :) I am pretty happy with how they turned out...not only with the image itself , but that I am able to more accurately predict the results of this type of photography...but its been an expensive experiment. :) Anyways, the sharpness thing, the foreground rocks are a little sharper in the actual file (once the proper unsharp mask is applied to the brightness channel) the difference is significant and I agree the contrast makes an improvement.

DJ: I used the Macro feature with a 200mm zoom to capture those rocks. I am actually pretty happy with the Sigma's sharpness, its certainly no high end Nikkor, but it does the job. :)

Thanks again guys for your feedback and comments.

Phwoarr, Dan. There are two Chris's in this thread now, and what you said could apply to either of our comments.

Thats quite cool.
