this is my main portfolio site i am building this week in an effort to get a summer internship thingie. i am pretty much settled on this iteration of design for my website - if you see anything that glaringly sucks ass please let me know. things like no thumbnails and lack of color in the site structure itself are intentional considerations, as i want a relatively serene site where the work can get noticed most.

I like where you're going with this nice job. the simplicity is just great.

The simplicity is very nice, but something is missing...I am not sure what...it does seem a bit blah in some ways...maybe with a color portfolio peice it would better.

This still wont get you any dates.... ;)

it will either sit on a plain white background or a subtlely textured gray background - i agree it lacks color but that is for 2 reasons - 1) a lot of work is black + white so i do not want to overpower the work with any large amounts of color in the site structure, and 2) a color piece on a black and white background will look stronger than on a colored background - you could say the same for black and white on color but i think that it actually diminishes the black and white as opposed to enhances it.

altho that is not to say that perhalps just the large black nav could be a color....and some highlights somewhere else. hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm......................................

I think just some subtle hints of color perhaps red little squares, and 'mitch' in red....just enough to tease but not enough to take away the stark contrast that the black and white layout offers as a display for your work....

larger font, darker red.... i think this is about all the color i want in it to be honest.

thats far more red than I would have thought you would put in. Did you not like the black background of the nav area

Anyways its looks good as is with the color (any of the ones you have).

Yeah!, I would love to see this up on the net....I feel this is a far better way of looking over your web Idea.....but if it's looking good on paper, I am sure it'll catch my eye and other people's attention......good work!

dude, yer killing me. :furious3:

LOL...actually i thought about it and I think that subtle color is good - i am not yet 100% on that particular red, i think it will become a darker burgundy color before i am tottally done - one good thing is that even if i am not happy with the color its only a few dozen images that need to be changed anyway.

I like what I see...the simplicity is a nice touch. In my opinion simple is always the best way to go for portfolio sites. You want the works themselves to be highlighted, although you still do want the viewer's eye to be attracted to the look of your portfolio.

The colors are a nice way to add some visual interest.

Very good advice sheckenheimer. freaky has it nailed. Remember its your 'work' within that is the REAL key....
