started life as this (http://www.aovs02.dsl.pipex.com/sp65.jpg) speedpaint a long time ago, from a ref of my missus, albeit loosely, saw some potential in the imagery, so i expanded to this (http://www.aovs02.dsl.pipex.com/sp130.jpg), then worked on it, wanted to do it for a while, liked the idea of a very 2d image surrounded by a little depth, but retaining looseness, less realism than i've been subscribing to lately

It looks nice Monk. I like the wood or sticks at the bottom. Although her arms look a little flat compared to the intensity of the face. Well her left arm at least. But this is nice.
fixed, looked a little wonky too :)

yeah this is coming along really nicely monk. i had seen the original speed as well. I really like the detail with the foreground and then the relative flatness of the figure, provides an interesting contrast.

yeah i love the effect the foreground has, really gives it a depth of field, the right arm does seem a little flat.

It looks very flat imho :(
there is no depth to it, it's so 2d while attempting to be 3d?
The face looks very blurry, the hands on the other hand a bit less, then the shoulder area is again so blurry it doesn't look like a shoulder but some strange blob.
The black things going around her arms are the same color, very flat again.
I think you need to review how light works on objects, like a cylinder, and compare to how light works on your painting, and if it works or not :)

Alex, if you take alook at what he said in his initial post....it was kind of the point of this exercise to have her 2d and the surrounds not so...which is quite different than the norm.

Although I can't really comment on the technique side (I still don't know which side I have to hold a pen.)
I really like this, the colors are very soft and dreamy.
I see it as some kind of Weaver entangled in decisions she can't really make anymore for an obscure reason (love ?).
The broken threads are freeing her but it come at a price.
The loss of illusion.
