I like the picture! It looks a tad bit out of focus, or is that just my eyes after a hard day of work? :)

I would also suggest a different route with the border on the picture. Perhaps SteelDolphin can recommend something.

Overall, I think you did a great job. It captures the lonely feeling quite well.

Okay, I like the idea behind this pic, and in fact I beleive I was at that very station when I was in Germany.

overall nice pic. :)

My crits:
The sharpness needs to be better but that may just be the jpg you have here. I will be uploading a new tut on sharpening images from scans, it may be of some help if you need it.

Anyway, the mood is good and compositionally the persons position is good too, however the effect would be more powerful if the subject were facing the camera in my opinion.

The things I would do is up the contrast and briing in the detail with some sharpening. The garbage can is distracting my attention too (I know you dont have any control ofver that but I thought I would mention it) I played around with the image and found that by uping the contrast the highs washed out nicely and the blacks on the guy were crisper bringing a bit more attention to him.

Anyways thats my 2 cents...

Oh regarding the border, usually when matting a BW image you want to have a light or white border or matting as it helps bring attention to the photo. :)

I updated the pic, please click the link in my earlier post

I adjusted the sharpness and the contrast, I couldnt rescan it (it was shot with my digital cam) and actually it only was a quick fun shot, I never thought it would come out that good.

@ Chris
I can't believe you were in Essen, I mean Essen is a big city but we have nothing beautiful to see.
:)

Thanks for your comments and suggestions, I learn all the time

Thank you

that looks better eh?

I think I passed through Essen, although now I am not sure. I took the rail from Manheim to Bonn, not sure if Essen is a stop anywhere between...please excuse my ignorance of Germany geography. :)

IMHO it is awesome that you visited germany, geography doesnt matter.
I mean, most poeple from germany can't tell you if Essen is between Mannheim and Bonn (btw, it isnt, but that doesnt matter)
damn
I would like to see all the shots you done over here but that would be an huge amount of photos I guess.

Cheers
Snoogie

Speaking of germany,
i was there in December for a PHP conference. I went to Frankfurt and Berlin.
Unfortunately my cameras were in for servicing back in England at the time and the trip came up unexpectedly. So no photos :(

But there will be some photos of Stockholm and Uppsala going up soon :).

Snoogie, nice work. I like the desolate/windswept feel of the place. It does seem slightly out of focus though.
My dad also says that Essen is a nice place, he spent 6 years in Heidelberg and 2 in Hamburg :)
