It's not completely finished yet, but I'm so excited that I can't wait!

I'd like to introduce The Brambles (http://thebrambles.biz).
(I'm pretty sure those few info paragraphs are going to get changed...but you get the idea!)

This is the first domain/hosting account I've ever set up, and it came off pretty smoothly!

Btw, not only did I do the website for the Inn, but it's also where I've been spending my days the past 6 months or so. Primarily it's been painting/caulking, etc. But we're pretty much up to par now, just waiting on a few pieces of furniture to arrive and need to get the art framed to hang on the walls. We have a full house booked this weekend!

Classy. Looks clean too. I noticed that the header banner flashes off and on when i try to go up to the nav is that intentional or is it just me - am I seeing things?

Thanks guys!

Steel: what browser are you using? I don't get that at all on my end...not sure what could be causing it.

IE 6.0.2

Hmmm, that's odd...I've been testing the site all along on IE 6.0.2 and I haven't experienced this effect. Just went and checked again on the live site and still nothing.

Any ideas about this? Perhaps you could capture a screen shot?

Thanks...

It seems to happen every time my mouse crosses over the banner

here is a screen shot (www.steeldolphin.com/forum/brambles_screen.jpg)

I am guessing its because of the use of divs...Idont really know though

Looks nice. Good job man. I get the same blinking that Steel got though. IE 6.02, Win 2K. :)

Thanks!

Hmm, very strange indeed!
I was able to check the site with IE 6.02 on two other computers (both running Windows XP) today and it was fine. Steel, do you use Windows 2K as well? Perhaps it is just a problem on that platform.

Anyone heard of this before?

I use 2k and 6.028 and it works fine for me.

could it be (pop-up) ad blocking software?

Steeldolphin

I run Xp, but I have the google tool bar and its set to block pop ups, so perhaps that has something to do with it....its a conundrum. ;)

Yep thats what it is alright...the pop up blocker good call Freaky. ;)

Servicepack 1 and 2 renders CSS slighty different in IE6 so you might want to check that too if you havent. Just a litle tip. Looks good so far. ;)

very nice, clean and nice colors. Maybe adding a small footer, or having the content area extend to the bottom of the browser window (on larger resolutions) would really just finish the site off nicely.

That's what I get also but with IE only.
And like SD said it's only when you roll over the banner then over the link.
Otherwise it's fine.
Latest Mozilla, Netscape and FireBird don't seem to see this problem.

I like it, very clean and classy. However, I keep wanting to scroll up as if im not seeing it all, mebbe bring it down off the top or extend the bottom out. If you don't extend the bottom, it could use a border like the sides have. Very nice though. :grin2:

I've been dealing with this a lot lately at work when developing CSS layout sites. Here are a couple of helpful links as a follow-up in case anyone's still interested:

I've updated the site by changing the navigation and giving it more substance. I've also added some more content and the xhtml and css of all pages now validates.

On large screen resolutions, where the content does not meet the bottom of the screen, the site ends abruptly with the white of the content. How about adding a line like the side grey bars to the bottom of the site, or extending the site to 100% height?

I noticed you put a fix in for the IE 6 flicker on the banner (I know, that IE bug is a pain to have to worry about.) Very cool. And the fact that it's a table-less design and it validates to XHTML 1.0 Strict is very impressive and forward thinking! Great job man. :)

Still looking good- I am viewing it at 800x600 and it looks sweet and intact....
A job well done meashman !!

Thanks for the compliments you guys, you're making me blush!

I agree that I didn't like how the page just extended off the top and bottom, and the 100% height didn't seem to be doing the trick. So I now have capped off the ends so to speak (I'll get this layout correct sooner or later!). It hopefully looks ok in all browsers...was having difficulties with IE diplaying extra space and causing tiny gaps, but I don't seem to be getting that any more. *crosses fingers*

I currently have the footer on the index page to display paragraph text instead of using a graphic ( i.e. http://thebrambles.biz/images/footer.gif ). Not sure if there is any benefit going with one way or another. Anyone have thoughts about this?

(You should submit this site to http://cssvault.com/)
I was actually thinking about submitting the site to the CSS Vault but I read their rules and you can't submit your own site. *hint hint* :wink3:

Dude, actually, I think you can submit your own sites to CSS Vault (http://cssvault.com/), but I went ahead and submitted it for you. Good luck! Some good exposure there, if you want exposure. I think that site gets a lot of unique daily hits. :)

Hey there,

You're right...I read the paragraph on the about page and misinterpreted it. You are allowed to submit your own sites as well as others.

Thanks though! Exposure is definitely good. I currently have 2 part-time jobs doing web design/graphic work and I might be starting out on another venture here soon. My friend is currently in the process of starting up her own copy/print place and we've tossed around the idea of adding a web department. I really need to get a portfolio site up...

Yeah, I can sympathize man. Trying to do this stuff for 8-10 hours everyday, then trying to go home and find time to do freelance work (I've got 2 people right now that want site designs). It's tough. Thank God for coffee. Good luck on the site though. (news flash: I'm currently working on an XHTML 1.0 Strict, CSS layout of "jeffsdigital". I've got it designed and architected, now I just have to assemble it. :) )

Still don't know any more about that job, but I do know that I'll at least be designing the website for the copy shop itself. I also got word today about designing another site for a wine bar that will be opening soon here in town.

I hear ya about the coffee!

Great news on the new site, although the current one looks pretty snazzy! Do you work like me and make a graphic mockup first and then go about the task of coding and assembling? Be sure to post the new design when you get it ready...I'll be happy to return the favor of submitting it to the Vault! ;)

Good news on the wine bar site. Sounds like a fun project. I was just in Sonoma and Napa (mmmmm... wine). Yeah, I definitely do all of the site's layout and graphic design in Photoshop. But I've learned to design with the constraints of XHTML and CSS in mind. In other words, sometimes, I get really artistic with the design in Photoshop, and I suddenly realize that it's not feasible for a Web page, at least a well built one. Slicing nightmares ensue (and watch those infuriating spacer gifs!) I think that's the fun challenge: to design a standards compliant, table-less layout, that also looks cool, one that doesn't look too boring. There are some great examples out on CSS Vault (http://www.cssvault.com) , and also on webstandardsawards.com (http://www.webstandardsawards.com/). :)

I'm pleased to announce that The Brambles site was approved for display on the CSS Beauty site!

Ok, ok, so I submitted it myself...but it's still pretty cool/exciting to have it accepted and listed! :P
