thats an image that i would love to do a version of.
but am a novice at illustrator
what do i need to do??

well that was done in Freehand MX, but the same thing could be done in Illustrator, and Ihave even seen it done using Photoshop.
I owuldnt want to presume this persons method, but I woul think it pretty much involves tracing an image. Using the pen tool. It might even help to initially take the photograph and convert it to black and white and threshold the crap out of it till you get only basic shadow and highlite value then use that as a guide. The rest is coloring using a cell shade technique (one or two values for highs and shadows in sold color). That would be the easy part. imo
I must admit I do like this look as well, but personally never accomplished anying of this detail or accuracy.

yeah, i was kinda thinking the same thing.
but i was wondering, about doing it in illustrator due to making it a vector, so i can resize it without losing any detail.
or would it be possible to do it in freehand, and resize it from there?

freehand is the same as illustrator, its a vector program. Although I havent used freehand much there may be raster effects that may not scale (specifically the soft edged shadows etc)...but otherwise its the same premise as Illustraor. ;)
