I'm very new to coloring with photoshop CS (or at all for that matter. i have used it for a while, but i just recently got into coloring) so please bear with me.
first thing, i think this is a great tutorial and thank you very much for posting it!

It begins with the "step 1 Add in a base color". the foreground/background color turns grey.

Next, i was following the tutorial pretty well untill i got to the coloring the flats section. For some reason, when i color the selected areas, they either are grey, or the total opposite color.

i downloaded the line art which is in .psd format which made me think that was part of the issue. But i saved the image as a .jpg and tried to start from scratch and had the same problem.

I'm sure this is probably pretty vague, but as i said, im a noob. if there is any advice anyone can give me it would be greatly appreciated!

thank you for your time!

I'm not too big on coloring, but I do know photoshop pretty well so maybe I can help. When you try coloring, are you selecting a new color and then trying to paint with that color? If you are, and it's still painting with grays and not the color you selected, then you are most likely still in grayscale mode. Go to Image/Mode/ and check to see if your in grayscale, if you are then change the mode to RGB. This should do the trick, if not let us know and i'm sure someone around here will figure it out. Goodluck!

Chances are you are filling in the colors on either an alpha channel or one of the other R, G or B channels, you must have the RGB composite channel selected - then and only then will you see the colors.

Thankyou guys for the help!
I'm definatly painting in RGB mode, but im not sure how to fill in the flats in JUST the RGB channel. I think i was trying to work in an alpha channel though.

I'm going to play around some more and see what i can do. If i need more help i'll post it. =)

im totally open to critisicm so please let me have it!

i dont know who the origional line artist is so i cant give them credit for it, but the coloring is all me.
