This is really old news but i figured it's worth posting. I'm a max user with no intent on switching, but for people still getting their feet wet in the world of 3d, maya is a great start. Like max, maya has great modeling, animation, and scripting tools. It also has Mental Ray (article (http://www.icreate3d.com/service-levels.htm)) render engine as a first party pluggin.

its nice that you post that, but its the PLE (personal learning edition) and if you render a picture you will always get a maya watermark in your pictures plus the plug-ins dont work with the PLE.

Oh yeah good point. But it's still worth it i think.

sure it works, but if somebody try to learn 3d, then i think BLENDER or SILO2 is is a bit better. and both are for free (silo cost something about 200€ but it has the same quality like lightwave or 3dsmax, but you need a special render programm like VRay or Nvidia Gelato).

but its cool that you show a link to 3d, here is not enough 3d in the forum ;)

actually yeah. i couldn't believe how far blender has gone! :eek2:

Have you seen that they have a built in sculpting tool!?!??!!?! that's crazy!!

yeah, blender has become really big. even the gui is not really user-friendly. the sculpting tool is fine, but zBrush is still better. and i think that zBrush always will be better.

ok i re read your post and i change my answer due to misunderstanding.

I agree that i specialzed application would perform better. But mudbox wouldn't recomend zbursh to anyone who's going into 3d animation. But i think we've gotten off topic on this thread. I'm starting a new thread in software help. cya there!:p
