Hi guys!,

Due to an overwhelming nnanimous vote with referance to my last post I decided to to learn some Illustrator.

I've made myself a basic logo in CMYK mode, but a problem as occurring when I try to export the image to TIFF format.

The logo consists of two colours
1) White 2) Pantone1955 Burgundy 3)Pantone 347 Green.

When I export the above in Illustrator to Tiff one of My Colours change to Purple namley the Pantone1955 Burgundy.

However when I export to PDF then export again from Acrobat to Tiff the image appears perfect.

=====================================================
Tiff export options within Illustrator CS:

Colour Mode: CMYK
Resolution: Other =300 dpi
Anti Alias = Checked
Byte order = IBM PC
=========================================

On PC

Any input greatly appreciated!!

First of all why are you exporting to TIFF. All logos should be left in a vector format like EPS.

Tiff files don't support spot colours so if that is your goal then you should use the Pantone Process swatches.

2nd you have three colours listed at the top not 2, or are you not counting white as a colour?

Are you using transparency or any effects in the file in the file?

What if probably happening though I don't totally understand the problem is that when you save as PDF you are converting the colours to RGB and then creating an RGB tif file from the PDF. In the RGB colour gammut you can probably match the pantone colour but in the CMYK one you can't. You can never match bright/rich purples and blues in CMYK. They will be dull and weak because of the CMYK colour gammut.

CMYK and pantone spot colours are two different colour systems. In an EPS, PDF or AI file they can exist together. Spot colours will be converted to CMYK (or RGB) in a raster file like TIFF or JPEG.

Thanks for the reply.

I tried using both PNG & EPS which retained the colour just fine.
It sounds I just dont know enough about images formats.

Could you recommend any urls I could read on the subject?

Here's the AI file if you need look @ it:
