Hey-newb here,
Wasn't sure where to post this question so here it is.

Does anyone know if you can (and how you can) copyright a series of images that all have the same name or title? For example- I know of someone who came up with the name/title 'Palmetto Republic' and has different series of graphics printed onto t-shirts, all bearing the name 'Palmetto Republic'. Can you get a copyright on just the title/name that still applies regardless of the image it's paired with? Hope you can help and thanks if you can.

In Canada and I believe in the States too, an image is copyright as soon as it is created. It doesn't have to have a name or copyright symbol, though a copyright symbol (and date) will help if copyright is challenged.

If an artist creates an image for an employer or as part of employment then the copyright is owned by the employer not the artist.

I am not entirely sure but, something like a name or concept like Palmetto Republic may be more subject to a trademark as opposed to copyright. The individual images are copyright but the name Palmetto Republic would be a Trade mark...however trademarks unlike a copyright are not automatic and need to be applied for and there is an expense involved.

Well done boys.....as I was stuck on this one...
I remember in my band days......when I wrote a song- I would then post the song to my own address with the envolope sealed in the back- then I would have the post marked and dated......and of course not open the bugger....

Thanks guys. trademark was the key word I was looking for. Actually did a search on my ideas and also on 'Palmetto Republic'-sure enough, it was listed by the person whom I spoke of. My names are still available-yay!
