Hi from a newbie to Steel Dolphin. Wondering does any one know of a fix or workaround for the 'can't open illustrator compound path error...

Can't say I have heard of that error before (as far as I remember).

Is it Illustratror not opening or is it a file you can't open?

Is the file a .ai or EPS file?

What version of illustrator are you using?

Was the file originally created in Illustrator?

But apparentl yalso occurs in AICS but have no seen it my self. The error
is at the file level and results in only 2 of the dozen or so layers being present when opened.

One thing you could try is opening the ai file in Acrobat. As long as the PDF compatability box was checked when saved (default) then it should work.

If acrobat is able to open it you can then save as a pdf and or eps and try opening those in illustrator.

If that doesn't work then you are probably screwed.

Have you checked the Adobe Knowledge Base and forums?

send the file to somebody else with Illustrator and see if they can open it...this has happened to me before...if they can have them save it as a copy and send it back to you.
