A little experiment: Mounting a found fragment onto linen and placing in an antique glass-front box.

I have no idea what it is - It looks mechanical, but it's clearly warped and broken apart with age.

i thought the same thing! i think the frame should be black..just my opinion.

And that would look really good with a spotlight and some shadows like in image #4.

I agree on the frame, but perhaps you could add some texture to the background. A dyed sandy texture would work nicely. The piece itself, it nice and interesting to look at. :)

Either your sculpture (http://www.steeldolphin-forums.com/showthread.php?t=2725) is remarkably accurate in it's likeness to old rusty things, or this artifact is a forgery. Either way, I love them both.
