Well I dont use digital myself, but when you are considering any purchase in a camera you have to establish a few criteria first.

1. What kind of photography will I be doing? Will my photographs require the flexibility of a multiple lense system (most common with SLR type cameras).

2. Do I want the option of full manual control over aperture shutter, etc.?

3. What is the final output for? Digital, print, both.

4. What's my budget? Reality check. ;)

If you can let us know a bit more about the above it might be easier for us to guide you. :)

Welcome to the board. :D

uhh heh i only understood about 3 words in that. i went out today and got my eyes set on the Olympus Cameria (something like that, i forgot already) E10 SLR. but there are some others like the Nikos and the a few others.

mainly lookin to use it for still pictures. digital so i can just take it, trans it to the comp and mess with it in ps. maybe occassionly make the fabled trip to Kinkos to get a print out of a really good pic. The E10 SLR is about 1299.99 so i have to sell a few things :D but it has really good mega pixel and has micro which is one of the things i was lookin for.

hope that helps :D
always nice to have a warm welcome :D

it was the camedia sorry the Olympus Camedia E10 SLR.
the others were the Sony Cybershot DSC-s75 which was good i thought for 499
- Olympus Camedia C-3020 for 499
- there was on that had good micro and some good features but i didn't like the feel of it but it had good qualities like resolution and mega pixels and such the Ricoh RR1 4up for 599.

that's what i saw today but tomorrow's a diff story...
again, just for taking stationary pictures and not ones that involve lots of burst shots and that has overall good quality (reso and megapix)
:D

I would look at the Nikon Coolpix 5000 as well.

I would probably pick the Nikon 5000 over the Olympus. The only negative would be the zoom level and with the Nikon 5000 you can get acc lenses that would do the job.

You could also look at the Nikon D100 and Canon EOS-D60. They may be out of your price range but they have the same estimated street price as the olympus E10 (the E10 is 2 years old now though). However they do not come with a lens so you would have to shell out an extra $150-$500 for a lens depending on what quality you want. The end result would be one sweet camera though.

I would look for a newer model camera than the E10 even though the resolution is good on it. There have been a lot of other advances in the last two years. The e10 came out in August of 00.

you can check out reviews at www.dpreview.com. They even have sample shots from some cameras.

I know a few people that are very happy with the Sony DSC-F707 . The camera has a good zoom, macro features and a lens made by Zeiss (pretty much the best you can get). The mega pixles maybe arent quite as high but you may be pleasantly surprised at the final output quality.
