Which of the 81 series of filters is it best to have?
Like is it best to have the 81b & 81d or 81a,81c & 81ef or all or just one?
For general photography

I have both 81B and 82A
The only difference is the grading of the tint, for general photography you would want an 81B to raise fleshtones and increase saturation.
82A is a cooling filter which i use when i want a cold feeling in the photo.

I use an 81A for shooting portraits in open shade or in inclement weather.

Here, this is from a photography mag I recently purchased called Photography Monthly. The May issue discussed essential filters. Rather than work from memory, I'd rather quote it to give you all a better explination:
Warming Filters
"The range consists of six filters - 81, 81A, 81B, 81C, 81D, and 81EF, with 81 being the weakest and 81EF the strongest. In practice, the 81 is so weak that the effect it gives is hardly noticeable, whereas the 81D and EF are much stronger and must be used with care.
Equip yourself with 81A, 81B, and 81C, and use them singularily or in combination to achieve a full range of waming effects. An 81A and 81B together gives the same effect as an 81D, for example, while and 81B and 81C gives the same effect as an 81EF."
Hope this helps you guys out, I'm still in the market for a new camera and lense . With a little luck, this next book review will get me the Nikon F80 and a nice lense :)
